Ron's Trifle
Chocolate, Vanilla and Coconut Trifle

Let’s be honest: breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but dessert for breakfast is the ultimate power move. If you’ve got a family gathering, a dinner party, or you just want to eat your feelings out of a giant glass bowl while listening to the radio, this Coconut, Vanilla, and Chocolate Trifle is your new best friend.
It’s tropical, it’s chocolatey, and it has enough layers to keep you interested—just like Ron’s morning trivia.
The Shopping List
The Architecture (The Base)
- 1 Pre-baked Vanilla Sponge Cake: (Or a pack of ladyfingers if you want to pretend you're fancy. Store-bought is fine; we won't tell the baking police.)
The Coconut-Vanilla Dream (The Middle Management)
- 1 can (14 oz) Sweetened Condensed Milk: The nectar of the gods.
- ½ can (14 oz) Coconut Milk: For that instant vacation vibe.
- 1 ½ cups Whole Milk: Because skimmed milk is just water lying about being milk.
- 3 Egg Yolks: Save the whites for an omelette tomorrow if you’re feeling guilty.
- 2 tbsp Cornstarch: The glue holding this operation together.
- 1 tsp Vanilla Extract & 1 tsp Coconut Extract: Accept no imitations.
The Dark Side
- 1 tin of Rich Chocolate Custard: or whip it up from a box or make it fresh. We are aiming for maximum deliciousness with minimum morning effort.
The Clouds & Confetti (The Topping)
- 1 ½ cups Heavy Whipping Cream: Whipped up with 2 tbsp powdered sugar until it holds its ground.
- 1 cup Shredded Coconut: Toasted until golden brown.
The Game Plan
Step 1: The Custard Custody Battle
In a saucepan over medium-low heat, whisk together the condensed milk, coconut milk, whole milk, egg yolks, and cornstarch. Stir it like you mean it for about 8 to 10 minutes. Once it thickens into a smooth, glorious custard, pull it off the heat and stir in your vanilla and coconut extracts. Let it cool completely. No hot custard on cold cake, please—we aren't savages.
Step 2: Fire and Ice
- Put your shredded coconut in a dry skillet over low heat. Toss it around for 3 to 5 minutes until it’s golden and smelling like a tropical island. Do not walk away. Coconut can sense fear, and it will burn the second you look at your phone.
- Whip your heavy cream and powdered sugar in a bowl until you get stiff peaks.
Step 3: The Assembly Line (The Fun Part)
Grab your largest, prettiest glass bowl. It’s time to build a masterpiece.
- The Foundation: Cube up your vanilla cake and drop a heavy layer at the bottom.
- The Tropical Wave: Slather half of that cooled coconut-vanilla custard over the cake.
- The Cocoa Crisis: Add another layer of cake, then smother it in the rich chocolate pudding.
- Repeat: Keep going until you run out of ingredients or bowl space.
- The Blanket: Pillow the top with a massive layer of whipped cream.
- The Finale: Rain down your toasted coconut and maybe some cheeky chocolate shavings.
Step 4: The Waiting Game
Cover the bowl and banish it to the fridge for at least 4 hours. The cake needs time to absorb the custard and think about its life choices.
Serve cold, turn the radio up, and try not to eat the whole bowl in one sitting!
