Seahaven FM Mast Appeal
Your local radio station, Seahaven FM, is launching an urgent appeal in order to maintain broadcast coverage to the Seahaven area.
Since we began FM transmissions in 2012 we have relied on the National Coastwatch FM mast at Newhaven to deliver our programming to listeners (at the eastern end of our broadcast area). We don't own this mast; it is run by the Newhaven Coastguard who have generously supported us.
However, there have been many technical advances since we launched, and this mast is no longer fit for our purposes. In order to improve and maintain the quality of our signal, we must upgrade to a more powerful and reliable radio mast at Newhaven.
After a delay of several months, Ofcom has granted permission to do this, and a recent breakdown of the current mast now makes this more urgent than we had anticipated. The annual cost to Seahaven FM will be in the region of £20,000.
As a not-for-profit organisation staffed and run by volunteers, all local people, we do not have the reserves to fully cover this huge increase in our costs.
We rely on sponsorship, grants, and advertising revenue to cover our running costs, but the sudden urgency means we must raise more money to cover the sudden increase.
Our Urgent Appeal
We are launching an urgent appeal to raise £10,000. We are doing what we can to boost our funding, and we are appealing to the generosity of the people and businesses in the communities we serve in East Sussex.
We are asking for donations, small or large. Please help if you can. You do this via our JustGiving page on the Seahaven FM website, or by contacting us directly to arrange payment by other means.
We also have several sponsorship opportunities so that businesses can get involved.
We understand that times are tight, but we hope that we can rely on the generosity of the people in our communities who understand the value of truly local radio and the benefits it brings to the community.
